Coastal Lowlands and Central Highlands Bike Route (1083 km):
Overview of the Coastal Lowlands and Central Highlands Bike Route: Xuyen Viet 2009 bike ride kickstarted
at Ho Chi Minh City and traveled east thereof to the coastal area of Ba Ria-Vung Tau. We spent several days biking and exploring
the coastal area North of Ba Ria-Vung Tau until we reached Phan Rang-Thap Cham, where we
shifted direction away from the sea coast and biked West to the Central
Highlands of Vietnam. In the Central Highlands, we biked South through
the highland mountains eventually making our way back to Ho Chi Minh City. This
ride was divided into 11 legs and combined to cover approximately 1083 km. The regions we travel included Dong Nai, Ba
Ria-Vung Tau, Binh Thuan, Ninh Thuan, Lam Dong, Dak Lak, Dak Nong, Binh Phuoc,
Binh Duong and Ho Chi Minh City. The
first few legs marked riding at elevation near sea-level, punctuated with
sceneries of the blue ocean water, vast stretches of sea sand, and strong wind
gusts. This seacoast stretch is followed
by rough but picturesque mountain climbs into Cao Nguyen, the central highland
region of Vietnam. From then, we descended through the regions
of Binh Phuoc, Binh Duong, and back to our start point, Ho Chi Minh City. On this Xuyen Viet ride, we biked on Vietnam main roads. So, for those looking to
complete a similar ride in other means of transport, it is entirely possible to
complete this ride in a motorized vehicle such as a van. Click on the links on the left side of the page for a brief summary
of each leg we rode on this 2009 bike ride.
